Food For Thought

Providing food for the family – gives a warm glow, your nurturing halo polished for the day. Satisfying when you have a new recipe to try and time on your hands, a free afternoon to indulge in baking with the kids, more stressful when you’ve been busy all day and have no idea what to cook for supper, the children are turning their noses up at all their previous favourites and you’d rather send out for fish and chips. The joys of country living don’t include take-aways, so we have to rely on a few quick, cook-in-your-sleep supper recipes for those all too frequent non-cooking days.
Here I share some of my favourite family recipes and invite you to send in yours to add to the Food and Family collection. Look at the Books page for a list of great cookbooks, which are my back-up and inspiration too.

A Note On Measurements

I mostly use metric measurements for cooking these days but have tried to convert approximately to give an imperial equivalent too – if the conversion leaves you with a stupidly awkward amount feel free to adapt – the only recipes where exact quantities are crucial to success are the baking ones. In South Africa a lot of baking recipes use cup measurements, which I will leave as they are. (1 cup=250ml).
