Food is more than just a fuel for survival. These days what we eat defines us just as much as what we wear. What we feed our families can be a source of endless agonizing. We feel great when we’ve cooked a healthy meal that the kids will actually eat, guilty when we’ve got out a TV dinner from the freezer.
There is so much advice out there, about organic foods, GM foods, essential fatty acids and all the rest that sometimes it’s hard to feel we’ve done our job by just cooking a tasty meal with the freshest ingredients we have to hand.
“food is more than just
a fuel for survival”
Shouldn’t we do more than just cover all the food groups, mightn’t there be some unsuspected allergen lurking that we don’t yet know about?
Food and Family’s food philosophy is about enjoying food, doing our best to eat well and cook meals from scratch even though we have busy lives and can’t spend a whole day rustling up an evening meal. We do our best to provide healthy nutritious snacks, but also love to bake cakes and cookies, because kids should have fun with food and it’s great to get them involved in cooking too.
We like real ingredients and fresh produce, but don’t always have time to go to organic markets so often settle for the freshest ingredients we can find in our local supermarket and choose local, seasonal produce.
Although we’re big supporters of organic food we recognize that you might not always be able to get it where you live, so at the very least look for the freshest ingredients, as locally produced as possible.
Food and Family believes in real ingredients. Our recipes use individual ingredients rather than packaged mixes. When you cook from scratch you know exactly what you are putting into your family’s food. If you are dealing with allergies or food intolerances it is much easier to adapt recipes that spell out all the ingredients.
You get far more variety in flavor, as too often packet mixes all end up tasting the same. It is also far cheaper to buy a set of basic ingredients and spices for baking and cooking, which makes a big difference to your monthly grocery bill.
So Food and Family stands for real food, food that is simple to cook, as healthy as possible and that families can enjoy together.
